Verve 360 Salon Giveaway

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with my hair. Come to think of it, that might be a universal. You can’t tell me you don’t check your hair in your reflection in a window every chance you get. Just me? No way, don’t even pretend like you don’t. We fix flyaways, tousle messy curls, and attempt to tame sex-hair until we finally say “fuck it” and just pull it back or throw on a hat.

I’d like to see an infographic on the amount of crap we put into our hair over the course of the year. Not even gonna consider the amount of money we spend on our hair, but the sheer volume of spray/gel/goop shit we slather on our heads on a regular basis. I’m guilty. I’m forever trying to achieve the too-cool-to-even-try look. Lemme tell ya, faking dirty, messy hair takes a butt load of product. I simulate white-girl dreadlocks with gel and some spray that has salt in it; that’s after I deep condition it with a little fancy-pants conditioner that has the ingredients written on the bottle in gold font, and in French of course.

I like to call it clean hippie hair; it’s been a work in progress for years and a dream since I was a little girl (I dreamt so big as a child). But achieving dreams takes hard work, the kind of work that needs a little coaching and a lot of practice. Eccentric stylists all over the Atlantic states have taught me the ways of long hair. Well really just Pittsburgh and New York but I’ve been kind of a hair stylist slut about it, my hair gets around.

My most recent long-hair training session happened at  Verve360hair salon Pittsburgh. My coach’s name was Brianne and she rocked those tiny bangs that looked so damn cool on Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was the bangs; I immediately knew that I was in good hands.

Brianne worked magic with the sheers like Edward Scissorhands walked onto the set of Shear Genius. She taught me about the Point Technique, showed me how to use a diffuser and schooled me on the Bumble & Bumble product line of which Verve is downright plush stocked in. The vibe of the place was more chill than posh. You could literally feel the good vibes of the yoga studio upstairs flowing down into the salon. The walls were covered in edgy-boho art and the staff members were super cool and they all had cute boots on; all things I value in a place.

The ladies at Verve were kind enough to offer a giveaway to our readers, two colors from Zoya’s Smoke and MIrrors nail-polish collection, Anja and Jem. Just drop us a comment about hair and how much you love or hate it and we’ll email the winner. Also, stay tuned, next time I go I’m gonna do some aerial yoga or perhaps take a BOSU pilates class.
