frock Around The Globe: Spring Fever in Vancouver

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom and so are spring fashions in Vancouver: tights are turning more sheer and disappearing altogether, jackets are becoming cardigans, and sunglasses aren’t just for the red-eyed hipster anymore: the sun is actually here and gracing us with its rays.

At the same time, store windows and websites are laden with great new pieces that scream spring fever! Here are a few of my favorite local finds for S/S 2011:

Nicole Bridger – www.nicolebridger.com

These beauties for your booty first caught my eye on one of the girls at the Eco Fashion Week office, where Ashleigh sported the black version of Nicole’s ‘True Short Shorts’ with a cute sheer-ish tee, thick sweater and tights. Made of woven linen and available in an assortment of colours, these shorts could easily be a go-to item for day or date wear this summer!

Lav & Kush – www.lavandkush.com

Because every girl needs a good blazer. This sky blue organic linen blazer is super sweet, with rounded-edge lapels, a cinched waist, and a light structure that flows out and looks like the form of a beautiful budding flower. The perfect piece to throw on with a pair of shorts, or over a dress for evening walks along the seawall.

Sofia Clothing – www.sofiaclothing.com

Because summer is all about being easy breezy, I love a good one-piece throw’n’go item like this Ana dress from Sofia clothing. Simple, sweet, with puffed sleeves and pockets, there’s not much more I can say about this piece but love-love-love!

kdon by Kim Cathers – www.kimcathers.com

What I love about Kim’s kdon designs are their layered, textured flows that to me embody the phrase “method to madness.” She makes seemingly mass loads of fabric look light and purposeful, and each drape in this sweet linen Verona jersey dress wraps around the body perfectly. An open back balances out the front, and Kim’s trademark hand-dyeing technique around the neck tie adds the perfect West Coast flair. Okay got the dress—now who’s got a date for me??
