Little Watches are Big Again- Love or Hate?

Fashion is like angry family members, late busses, last season sample sales and ex boyfriends: wait long enough for them and they will eventually come around.  The recent trend that is sneaking its way back onto our wrists (and into our hearts) is the delicate and elegant watch.  Watches are going from chunky to chic and boyfriend to Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired. Don’t get me wrong, I still adore a big brawny watch, but a small watch mixed with bangles can really get me ticking.

How to Wear it

The little watch trend comes just in time for the holidays, when our slinky holiday dresses are pulled out of the closet and our festive clutches brought down from the shelves.  A delicate watch can be worn by itself as an accent piece, and goes with almost any outfit.  Although most people think of corporate suits and Wall Street when they see a streamlined watch, it can actually be worn with anything from a beaded bracelet to a shiny, blingin’ bangle.

In order to dress it down, mix different textures and thicknesses.  Play with colors, mix silver and gold, combine shiny and matt finishes, and try adding leather, braided cuffs, jewels, and even charm bracelets.

If you want to keep it classy, mix your watch with something sparkly, but keep other jewelry to a minimum.  Let your watch speak for itself and be the focus of your outfit.
