New York, NY – (August 2010) – The Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show graced New York Friday August 27th and Saturday August 28th for its first ever NYC show of Fashion, Beauty, Health and Tourism—a two-day event that included an opening night and a vendor showcase.
“We wanted New York to enjoy the real image of our country, Colombia – our land, our culture, our people, and our products,” says Andrea Riaño, general manager of the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show. “The goal of the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show this year is to introduce New Yorkers to what Colombia has to offer, focusing on our fashion, beauty, health and tourism opportunities.”
The Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show debuted on the eve of Friday August 27th at the Altman Building. Guests found themselves immersed in a multifaceted event highlighted by fashion shows, musical performance, art exhibits, and a crowd so international and eclectic only NYC could gather.
Upon entrance, guests were greeted by a spectacle of twenty chrome mannequins dressed in Colombian high fashion by some of the country’s most prominent designers and adorned with handcrafted jewelry by designer Mercedes Salazar. According to Salazar, her accessories “always try to show the two sides of the coin, the balance between lightness and weight.”
Large, captivating images by Colombian photographers, including Carlos Ruiz, cascaded from the ceiling as the crowd mingled. Designers, artists, doctors, and beauticians traveled the distance from Colombia to New York with the sole purpose of showcasing their work, products, and services around the venue’s magical setting.
At 8pm, a series of three fashion shows began. Pitahaya Swimwear opened with their colorful Summer 2011 collection, marking their first show in NYC.
Designer Silvia Alfonzo poses backstage
Next to grace the runway was designer Silvia Alfonzo’s sophisticated and feminine apparel, marked by silhouettes of rouched flowers, gypsy-style tie-dyes and watercolors.
Designer Edwing D’Angelo poses backstage
To close the shows, the models strutted in designer Edwing D’Angelo’s retrospective viewing of his best preview collection looks.
In between the fashion shows, Latin Grammy-Nominated Colombian musician, Andres Cabas performed to an enthusiastic crowd.
The two-day event raised awareness of the Colombian Fashion, Beauty, Luxury, Travel, and Entertainment world to the New York City trade. Buyers, designers, socialites, potential customers, and media alike were present for the historical and fashionable showcase of Colombian Luxury Lifestyle Show in NYC.
